In The Beginning….
there was air, water, land, animals, and humans to take care of it - all dependent on each other for survival.
We are all born on this earth needing the love of someone to care for us, teach us, and help us grow into our God-given gifts so that we can be the next caretakers of this earth and each other in community.
Stories, songs, words and art have been used to pass down history, express happiness and sadness and bring issues to light. They have been the driving force for community and change to form culture. While the earth and humans have evolved, cultures and communities have formed with words, imagery, or the strike of a plow.
The land not only provides us food and shelter, but land ownership has become a valuable commodity. With the advent of industry, those that work with the plow have as much if not more concerns just keeping their land and water than over the worry of the sustenance it provides.
Music and art have also become a commodity with the advent of the entertainment industry - and there is good and bad with that. Genres have formed cultures that congregate around ideas surrounded by sound and beats.
To form order from chaos on this earth, we tend to congregate with and look for those who think, act, look and speak like us. We then search out leaders to enforce and protect our desired ways of life - whether good or bad.
And, then we use charismatic speakers, styles of entertainment, music and art to influence populations on what to focus on and who to choose to lead and speak for “us”.
But, we must be mindful those subsequent actions, words and like-mindedness through culture and belief systems tend to have life changing effects on everyone.
Nations have anthems, wars have battle cries, and cultures use songs and stories to describe who they are - but yet every one of us comes into this world the same - with a cry, taking in that first breath of air in order to survive. Helpless without someone to love us, feed us and cover us.
In our effort to make things “better”, we tend to overcomplicate things. One of the greatest pieces of advice I have been given when overwhelmed or can't figure why something isn't working is to “go back to the beginning" to see the source of the issue. Taking it back to the beginning also helps one focus on why something was even done in the first place.
Poet and Plow will strive to focus on creators that use their talents to take it back to the basics.
There will be articles on music, art, events, community efforts and more by creators that are known, and some not known - yet.
We won't shy away from hard subjects, either. We will include the latest news regarding entertainment culture and its effect on our country, the world and issues that affect our way of life.
We will strive to use our words, voices and actions to prepare the landscape for growth, create strong and sustainable communities, and uplift and care for those who aren't able to care for themselves. That's what community is for.
Art imitates life. We wish to encourage and cultivate life with that art.
With the fast paced environment of social media and advertising, there are so many needles in the haystacks of the overwhelming new sources of media, we will try to be one haystack helping organize needles.
Welcome to our community.
